The Role:

We're looking for a Senior Software Engineer to build a new team focused entirely on internal developer experience. You'll shape how Aiven engineers write, test and ship code, from development environments and internal tooling to CI/CD pipelines. Every improvement you make lands directly in the daily work of every engineering team at Aiven. We want a generalist who knows software engineering best practices, is equally comfortable writing a fast, robust shell script and managing cloud infrastructure, and wants to build up a team from day one.

What You'll Do:

• Work with engineering teams to identify and prioritise concrete problems, then fix them.
• Own and improve our CI/CD pipelines.
• Build new developer tooling, or pick the best existing tools, and drive their adoption.
• Set sensible defaults for the whole organisation, such as project templates, testing conventions and documentation.
• Help shape how humans and AI agents develop safely side by side.

What We're Looking For:

• Professional Experience: Several years in professional software engineering teams, shipping and maintaining software in production.
• Ownership Instinct: You're the person who fixed the flaky build, wrote the onboarding script or cleaned up the pipeline because it was slowing your team down, even when nobody asked.
• Infrastructure: Hands-on experience with Linux, containers and Infrastructure as Code.
• Communication: Fluency in English, written and verbal.
• Observability (nice-to-have): Experience with observability tooling.
• UX Sensibility (nice-to-have): Familiarity with user experience or product design, or a habit of treating your fellow engineers as users.
• Open-Source Data Technologies (nice-to-have): Familiarity with open source data technologies such as Apache Kafka®, PostgreSQL® or ClickHouse®.
