Job description

eleQtron develops and operates full-stack quantum computers based on trapped-ion technology. Quantum computing is a new computing paradigm rapidly approaching commercial viability. Our unique approach combines laser-cooled trapped ions with microwave control and tailored magnetic fields. Our next-generation computing machines under development will be able to find solutions to problems that are out of reach today, thus enabling new innovative products and services for a brighter future.

We are looking for a Hardware Technician (f/m/d)

Responsibilities:
As a Hardware Technician (f/m/d), you will work hands-on to assemble, set up, test and maintain complex hardware systems, ensuring reliable operation from initial build through commissioning and handover.

This is a purely practical technician role focused on execution. It does not include system design, simulation or engineering development responsibilities. You will support engineers and scientists by carrying out precise technical work on hardware systems.

  • Assemble, modify and maintain mechanical and electrical hardware systems (incl. optical components)

  • Build and support hardware assemblies such as vacuum components, precision mechanical parts, cabling and electronics infrastructure

  • Perform hands-on work using tools (e.g. drilling, mounting, wiring, basic vacuum checks)

  • Support hands-on system setup, testing and commissioning

  • Identify and fix practical hardware issues (e.g. misalignments, wiring errors, faulty components)

  • Perform preventive maintenance and basic repairs

  • Maintain a clean, safe and well-organized workspace

  • Document work clearly and in a reproducible manner

Job requirements

Required skills:

  • Completed vocational training (Ausbildung) in Mechatronics, Electronics, Precision Mechanics or a similar technical trade

  • 3–5 years of hands-on experience with complex technical systems in industry, manufacturing or R&D environments

  • Strong practical skills in mechanical assembly, use of tools and reading technical drawings

  • Structured, reliable and safety-conscious working style

  • Ability to work independently and across different tasks and teams

  • Very good German skills (C1/C2) and comfortable working in an English-speaking environment

Nice-to-have:

  • Experience in high-tech or R&D environments (e.g. cleanroom, vacuum or semiconductor environments)

  • Field service or maintenance background

  • Experience supporting engineers in technical setups

  • Basic understanding of optics or vacuum systems

  • Interest in advanced hardware technologies
