The Data Acquisition Manager manages critical vendor relationships and related processes, including market research, data sourcing, relationship qualification, and testing new data vendors. Responsibilities include working across departments to understand use cases and data requirements, managing test contracts, data testing and data delivery.
This role will gather data requirements from key constituents, identify and qualify data vendor prospects, create and manage data vendor relationships, consolidate internal alignment for critical contract decisions, and act as the point of contact between D&B and data vendors. Additionally, they will become familiar with subject matter across a variety of datasets.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as the primary owner for a portfolio of third party data providers, managing relationships end to end from initial engagement through renewal, expansion, or termination.
- Lead the full data acquisition lifecycle, including vendor evaluation, proof of concepts, contract execution, onboarding, and transition to business as usual operations.
- Partner cross functionally with Risk and Credit & Finance Product teams, Data Operations, Analytics, Finance, Legal, and Compliance teams to align data sourcing with business needs and ensure smooth ingestion, usage, and support.
- Manage commercial aspects of data sourcing, including renewal negotiations, pricing analysis, contract amendments, invoice resolution, and budget coordination.
- Identify and support cost optimization opportunities by evaluating vendor spend, usage patterns, and build vs buy considerations; contribute to cost save initiatives and executive reporting.
- Ensure compliant and appropriate use of third party data by coordinating licensing terms, internal usage clarity, and governance requirements across lines of business.
- Track and communicate vendor and initiative status through clear documentation and structured updates, including risks, dependencies, timelines, and next steps.
- Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation and knowledge repositories (e.g., vendor contacts, contracts, pricing history, ingestion ownership, renewal calendars) to ensure continuity and scalability.
- Act as a bridge between technical and non technical stakeholders, translating complex data, contractual, and operational topics into clear, actionable insights.
- Prepare concise, executive ready summaries and recommendations to support leadership decision making related to data strategy, vendor partnerships, and investment priorities.
Key Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Economics, Information Systems, or a Liberal Arts field; equivalent practical experience considered.
- 5+ years of experience in data acquisition, vendor management, sourcing, or data strategy, preferably within a data driven, regulated, or enterprise environment.
- Demonstrated experience owning third party data relationships end to end, including vendor evaluation, contract execution, renewals, pricing discussions, and issue resolution.
- Proven ability to manage the full data acquisition lifecycle, from early stage discovery and proof of concept through onboarding and business as usual operations.
- Strong cross functional collaboration skills, with experience working closely with Product, Data Operations, Analytics, Finance, Legal, Compliance, and Procurement teams.
- Experience evaluating commercial tradeoffs (build vs. buy, insource vs. outsource) and supporting cost optimization or cost save initiatives tied to vendor spend.
- Working knowledge of data licensing, usage rights, and governance considerations, and the ability to translate contractual terms into clear internal guidance.
- High proficiency in documentation, tracking, and operational rigor, including maintaining vendor inventories, renewal calendars, pricing history, and ownership models.
- Ability to communicate complex data, technical, and contractual topics clearly to both technical and non technical stakeholders, including senior leadership.
- Experience producing executive ready summaries, recommendations, and status updates to support data investment and partnership decisions.
- Comfortable operating in an environment with multiple concurrent initiatives, shifting priorities, and a high degree of accountability.
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and a demonstrated ability to drive work forward independently while maintaining alignment across teams.
