The position
At Hive, we're building the leading operations platform for independent commerce. We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join the team and help build out the backend of our Warehouse Management Software.
  • Your work will impact hundreds of commerce brands and millions of end customers across our merchant-facing product (“Hive App”), our end customer offering (“Customer Portal” and “Delivery Promise”), and our Warehouse Management Software.
  • What you'll be doing
  • Shipping high-quality product: In the end, what matters is what our customers and internal users are using on a day-to-day basis
  • Lead the technical design, development, and maintenance of functionality on the backend, ensuring we’re building a high quality product
  • Work closely with product managers, leads, and fellow engineers to translate product requirements into technical specifications, developing new functionality and enhancing the existing product(s)
  • Identify and address performance bottlenecks, design and implement scalable solutions that can handle increasing user demands and data volumes, ensure sustained performance of our application code for highly performant operations
  • Participate in cross-team discussions shaping the technical direction of our technical stack
  • Additionally, as a Senior Software Engineer, you'll have the chance to shape the product and the team on a higher level by owning features end-to-end, mentoring, and pairing with younger engineers.
Your profile
We know - sometimes, you can’t tick every box. We would still love to hear from you if you think you’re a good fit!
  • You’ve done this before. Multiple times. Ideally, you've written a lot of Rails code before, building complex applications and systems that just work. We’re looking to work with experienced people who can pick a problem and solve it — this will probably mean that you've worked as a Software Engineer for 5+ years
  • Builder at heart. Creating from scratch excites you. Figuring out how to solve problems is one of your favorite activities. Building, scaling, and rapidly iterating upon the software is what keeps you going
  • You care about quality. You champion and deliver rigorously tested, documented, and maintainable code — you know how much time it'll save you down the line
  • You care about the business impact. Perfect software is not the only thing — you care about the business impact of your products, and make trade-offs when necessary
Bonus points:
  • You have experience with RSpec for writing specs
  • You bring along deep knowledge of OOP and Test-Driven-Development
  • Experience in building Warehouse Management Software (WMS)
  • Proven track record of implementing e-commerce integrations like Shopify, SendCloud, Shopware, Billbee, WooCommerce, or others
Our stack:
  • Ruby on Rails on the backend. Our backend services are all written in Rails — it allowed us to get going and keep iterating quickly, our infra is all managed via AWS
  • React + TypeScript on the frontend. Our frontend applications are written in React and TypeScript, and we use styled-components for styling
  • We work with modern tooling. Code is hosted on GitHub, error reporting handled in Sentry, Vercel for hosting and deploying our frontend services and AWS for the backend infrastructure, Linear used for issue tracking, we design in Figma, analyze with Segment and June.so, have Notion as our internal wiki, and use Slack for internal communication. Our marketing websites are built with Webflow.
