Integration Engineer
Marvel Fusion
Who we are
Founded in 2019, Marvel Fusion is Europe’s leading fusion energy company, uniting 75 scientists, engineers, and entrepreneurs across our locations in Munich and Colorado.
Backed by over €385 million in public and private funding, we’re driven by a shared mission: to deliver clean, abundant energy to the world.
Why Marvel Fusion
By joining us, you will be:
- Solving one of the most complex technological challenges known to humanity, harnessing Fusion on Earth
- Part of a highly purpose-driven team working on providing the world with clean, safe and abundant energy
- Working alongside world-leading scientists and entrepreneurs in the field of Fusion
- Part of a start-up where growth on a company and individual level is the default
The impact you will make
In this role, you will shape how complex, facility-scale technical systems come together and perform within high-power laser facilities for laser-driven fusion. You will ensure that high-power laser systems and their supporting technologies (vacuum systems, large optics, precision mechanics, and facility infrastructure) are coherently defined, compatible, and ready for operation.
Your work will directly influence system performance, facility reliability, and technical risk. By defining requirements, managing interfaces, guiding technical decisions, and leading structured design and integration activities, you will enable complex laser-driven fusion systems to progress smoothly from concept through commissioning. Your contributions will help ensure that the facility meets its technical objectives and operates as intended.
Your responsibilities
- Define and manage system and subsystem requirements for laser-driven fusion facility integration
- Establish and maintain interfaces between lasers, vacuum systems, optics, mechanics, and facility infrastructure
- Develop and manage system performance budgets
- Plan, prepare, and participate in formal design reviews (e.g. PCR, CDR)
- Ensure traceability between requirements, design, verification, and acceptance
- Identify, assess, and mitigate technical risks across the project lifecycle
- Coordinate integration activities across multiple engineering disciplines
- Produce and maintain integration plans, interface control documents (ICDs), and technical documentation
This role is primarily based in Munich, with occasional travel to research facilities worldwide.
What you bring
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in engineering (Optical, Mechanical, Electrical, or related field)
- More than 5 years of experience integrating complex technical systems in large-scale facilities
- Experience participating in PCR, CDR, or equivalent structured design reviews
- Solid understanding of vacuum systems, large optics, and precision mechanics
- Strong system-level thinking and structured problem-solving skills
- Strong interpersonal and technical communication skills, with the ability to proactively engage and communicate with diverse stakeholders
- Excellent writing and oral communication skills in English
What sets you apart
- Background in high-power laser systems, ideally in a fusion or high-energy-density physics context
- Experience with defining and integrating facility-wide safety and interlock systems (e.g. radiation safety)
What we offer
Our mission is motivation enough for many. But we also support our team with benefits that foster wellbeing and growth:
- Public transport reimbursement
- EGYM Wellpass fitness club access
- Complimentary health insurance
- Professional development support
- Healthy office snacks
