Contract: Full-time (CDI)
We are looking for a Detector Department R&D Manager to lead the development of one of our most critical components: high-speed photodetectors. You will coordinate closely with the other departments to align detector development with the broader technology roadmap.
You will report to CTO-level and act as the technical lead and architect for our detector technology, driving developments from design to characterization while ensuring seamless synchronization with our in-house fabrication department.
This is a strategic role for a "builder." You will start by managing a small nucleus of engineers (2-3 people) with the specific mission to structure, recruit, and scale the team to ~5 experts within the next 12 months.
Key Responsibilities
1. Team Leadership & People Management: Manage the daily operations of the team. Conduct performance reviews, set individual objectives, ensure skill development, and maintain a high level of engagement and well-being within the department.
Build the Team: Define needs, interview, and onboard new talents to grow the department from 2 to 5+ people by the end of next year.
Project Management: Organize workflows, set timelines, and ensure delivery of milestones for the detector roadmap.
2. R&D Strategy & Technical Execution
III-V on Silicon: Lead the full internal development cycle (Design, Layout, Characterization) of high-performance III-V photodetectors on Silicon.
Other Detector Support: Support the integration strategy for externally fabricated detectors (Internal Layout & Characterization) in coordination with external partners.
Simulation & Design: Drive the design flow using Lumerical and Python-based simulation tools. Ensure robust layout generation.
Data-Driven Development: Supervise the characterization protocols, data analysis and test bench automation to close the designed to fabricated devices correlation loop.
Profile & Requirements
We are looking for a Senior profile (>8 years of experience) with a strong industrial mindset. While a PhD is valued, it is not mandatory if compensated by significant industrial R&D experience.
Hard Skills:
Semiconductor Physics: Deep understanding of optoelectronic devices, specifically Photodetectors.
Simulation & Layout: Proficient with Lumerical (Optical and electrical modules) and usual layout tools. Experience with Cadence is a plus.
Programming: Strong understanding command of Python is essential (used for e.g. simulation, layout, data analysis).
Soft Skills:
Leadership: Proven experience in people management. You know how to align a team around a common goal.
Industrial Rigor: You know how to transition from "lab prototype" to "reliable component."
Agility: You are comfortable in a startup environment where priorities can shift, and problem-solving requires creativity.
Communication: Fluent in English (working language).
