We are looking for an exceptional engineer with 8–12 years of experience who serves as a technical leader on complex, multidisciplinary projects. You have a deep and broad base of practical knowledge and can independently drive projects from concept through delivery. You are comfortable leading electrical engineering efforts, mentoring junior engineers, and engaging directly with clients and stakeholders to define scope, manage expectations, and communicate results.

You are motivated to document and communicate the elements of your designs to fellow teammates and clients. You thrive contributing to and leading teams from multiple disciplines including: mechanical, electrical, software, and human factors engineers; industrial and human interface designers, usability specialists, and design strategists. You take ownership of electrical engineering quality and consistency across projects.

You must be able to work across many different platforms, architectures, and situations. A diverse exposure to processors, analog and digital circuits, and low-power design is extremely important. You proactively identify emerging technologies, evaluate their applicability, and guide the team in adopting them strategically. You are recognized as a go-to resource for technical decisions both within project teams and across the broader organization.

The primary responsibilities will be serving as the lead electrical engineer on projects: owning architecture decisions, guiding the design of board-level solutions for embedded systems (including cabling, EMC, and process-driven documentation), and managing associate-level electrical engineers. Secondary responsibilities include multi-discipline system architecture (electronics, software, and mechanical systems), contributing to sales activities, and helping scope and estimate projects.

Responsibilities
  • Serve as lead electrical engineer on projects; own the electrical architecture, guide the team from early concept through delivery, and ensure design quality and consistency across workstreams
  • Define system design and architecture; work with clients and engineering teams to identify and refine system architectures, design electrical subsystems, and perform electrical part selection
  • Prototype electronics; combine evaluation boards with custom circuits, sensors, motors, and other peripheral hardware
  • Design mixed-signal circuits; design, simulate, and prototype analog and digital systems, largely for use in embedded applications, medical devices, and robotics platforms
  • Design PCBAs; perform schematic capture, PCB layout and layout management, and manage PCBA production
  • Design and operate test systems; design, prototype, and operate test fixtures for embedded systems, robotics platforms, component evaluation, etc.
  • Document designs for first generation devices; generate design requirements, hardware descriptions, V&V test documentation, schematic and layout design documentation
  • Carry out EMC and safety testing per project requirements; identify design safety and compliance risks, prepare and test device and/or electrical subsystems, troubleshoot and revise electrical designs
  • Present to internal teams as well as external clients and stakeholders; regularly build presentations and reports to drive brainstorming, communicate designs, and share status updates
  • Participate actively in sales and business development; lead technical scoping and estimation for proposals, engage with prospective clients to define project approach, present capabilities and proposed solutions to key stakeholders
  • Manage and mentor associate-level electrical engineers; provide technical direction, review work products, support professional development, and ensure deliverable quality
  • Travel occasionally to support testing, delivery, sales, or other activities
  • Work out of our Boston studio 2-3 days a week on average
