Upvest is an investment firm regulated by the German supervision authority (BaFin). The company currently employs 160+ people across Europe with its headquarters based in Berlin, Germany.
The company is backed by the world’s largest venture capital funds and investors including Bessemer Venture Partners, BlackRock, Earlybird, HV Capital, Notion Capital, and ABN Amro Ventures, as well as by renowned fintech entrepreneurs (including Maximilian Tayenthal, founder of N26, and Felix Haas, founder of IDnow).
We’re looking for fintech enthusiasts to join us in creating the financial infrastructure of tomorrow. We’re building the first European Investment API to enable any financial institution offering a wide range of efficient and transparent investment products, such as stocks and ETFs in nominal, portfolio, and fractional form. Our mission and vision is to make investing as easy as spending money.
We’re based in Berlin but would consider hiring remotely in Germany for this role. If you do want to move to Berlin though, we’re happy to support your relocation.
Your mission:
We are seeking a part-time (up to 60%) UX designer with a product mindset to join our Tooling Apps team, closely collaborating with Product Managers, Product Engineers and our internal user stakeholders.
Your mission is to continuously raise the UX standard of our operations tooling through hands-on work. This includes designing purpose-built tools that are efficient to use and speak the user’s language, optimising existing tools to better achieve stakeholder’s outcome as well as developing UX best practices through reusable components and patterns that enable engineering to scale improvements across the whole of Operations Tooling.
We are looking for someone who can drive parallel work streams within the team’s development cycle. A typical week could see you draft early prototypes to drive discovery, based on user insight, whilst conducting user testing on a delivered feature.
Team's mission
The Tooling Apps team designs and builds the internal tools for our Operations, Accounting and Risk colleagues to be able to operate all the middle- and back-office processes. These processes enable Upvest’s growth, when done right Upvest can continue scaling without inhibitions thanks to controlled & compliant operational processes.
The team plans, designs, and implements all tools together with stakeholders from other departments, advising and shaping the solution together to find the most impactful implementation, whether this is further back-end automation or dedicated tooling.
This role will give you the opportunity to:
Own the user experience and stakeholder outcomes of our internal tooling as part of the team.
Iteratively improve existing tools to make them easier to use and to reduce operational risk.
Design and build easy-to-use, low friction workflows to enable efficient day-to-day operations using wireframes & prototypes and test them with stakeholders.
Collaborate intensively with stakeholders (Operations, Accounting, Risk and other Product Engineering teams) to learn about their work in shadowing and whiteboarding sessions, jointly driving discovery with the Product Managers.
Deliver fast and often. We embrace dual-track agile with tight feedback loops.
Help shape the future vision for the operational tooling.
What you will bring:
An inquisitive, curious approach to UX. Your stakeholders are sitting one (virtual) desk away, and their problems need to become yours.
The ability to bridge the why with the UX side, discussing tradeoffs and proactively suggesting ideas, aka a strong product mindset.
Pragmatism. Pick the right approach for the job rather than applying a framework. We achieve success through iterative, impactful improvements.
Vast, applied knowledge of core UX concepts such as patterns and design systems
Practical knowledge of the tools of the trade for efficient collaboration with Product Managers and Product Engineers (Figma, Miro, Storybook).
It's nice if you have:
Past experience working closely with frontend engineers.
A history of building UX products in the investment or finance space.
Practical experience in repurposing single-function UIs to integrated workflows.
