Upvest, founded in 2017, enables any financial institution to offer great investment experiences to its customers. Upvest is an investment firm regulated by the German supervision authority (BaFin). The company currently employs 170+ people across Europe with its headquarters based in Berlin, Germany.

The company is backed by the world’s largest venture capital funds and investors including Bessemer Venture Partners, BlackRock, Earlybird, HV Capital, Notion Capital, and ABN Amro Ventures, as well as by renowned fintech entrepreneurs (including Maximilian Tayenthal, founder of N26, and Felix Haas, founder of IDnow).

We’re looking for fintech enthusiasts to join us in creating the financial infrastructure of tomorrow. We’re building the first European Investment API to enable any financial institution offering a wide range of efficient and transparent investment products, such as stocks and ETFs in nominal, portfolio, and fractional form. Our mission and vision is to make investing as easy as spending money.

We’re based in Berlin but are also open to hiring remotely in Germany or Estonia for this role. If you're currently based elsewhere but would like to move to Germany, we’re happy to support your relocation.

Team's mission

The Tooling team (as part of the Custody tribe) is responsible for enabling Upvest’s Operations, Risk and Banking teams with user-centric applications to allow them to execute their daily work. These key stakeholders require easily understood tools, which are closely aligned with their operational processes. The team’s effectiveness is fundamental to allow efficient handling of the increased volume of trades being processed through the Investment API.

The team has many exciting plans for its products, amongst them the opportunity to extend its currently internal tools towards a commercial suite of back office tooling.

Upvest is scaling fast and its operational departments are impacted most. Your challenge is to provide those teams with such effective tools that their headcount does not significantly need to rise; otherwise known as asymmetric scaling.

This role will give you the opportunity to:

  • Empower the Tooling Applications domain team to reach its full potential, working with 4-5 full stack engineers, 1 Product designer and the custody tribe’s Head of Product and Head of Engineering.

  • Collaborate directly and build relationships with the Operations, Banking and Risk teams; understand their challenges to delight them with value-adding tools.

  • You are responsible for effective tactical planning through OKRs and own the domain roadmap.

  • Use your knowledge of the market and industry trends to influence and help shape the team’s roadmap & vision.

  • Lead the charge to expand Upvest’s current API offering with a commercial back-office tooling product (this will include a dedicated PM and a dedicated Engineering team in the future)

What you can expect from this role:

  • Autonomy coupled with inspirational leadership: When we say empowered teams we mean it. In this role you will fully own the product success of your team and function.

  • Product-centricity throughout the organisation: At Upvest we highly value the importance of product and our Product team’s work. No struggle for relevance that product people may encounter elsewhere.

  • Product Engineering culture: Teams are working together guided by joint OKRs and a clear roadmap. Collaborate closely with your engineering counterparts to deliver client value in a decoupled and dynamic manner.

  • An exceptional team: Upvest’s Product team is one of a kind when it comes to combining impactful work with a relaxed and fun atmosphere. We have established strong practices around feedback, team health and social events resulting in a team happiness score of 9.1 out of 10.

Continuous learning: The complex yet fascinating field of investments, building an API product on a state-of-the-art tech stack, and working with the most relevant fintechs and financial institutions provide for an incredibly rewarding learning experience. It is a great opportunity if you aspire to grow professionally and personally.

Job requirements:

  • You have 4-5 years experience working in Product Management roles - ideally with focus on internal and/or external tooling. Experience in financial services, compliance or FinTech is a big plus.

  • You have a firm grasp of UI / UX best practices and can capably ideate & prototype through lo-fi wireframes + collaborate strongly with your design peers.

  • You’ve got a strong track record of taking initiative, someone who owns outcomes, bridges dependencies and pushes value for its stakeholders.

  • Be a sponge! We don’t need you to be a finance or trading industry expert. But you will need to be able to absorb knowledge on complicated topics quickly (subledger reconciliation, mutual fund trading flow) and combine with your expertise on product management best practices.

  • Your experience with agile software development methodologies allows you to build and deliver features/outcomes consistently.

  • Experience with product manager’s toolkits - such as product discovery, ticketing and documentation software (e.g., Linear, Slite, Miro, Figma etc.)

Why Upvest?

  • We're working on solving a hard problem: fixing the European securities financial infrastructure that empowers more people to be able to invest. You have the opportunity to contribute to this change.
  • We invest in you. From access to a personal coach, development budget and plenty of opportunities to grow in your role.
  • We take hiring seriously with a strong focus on keeping a high bar when interviewing (equally important is that we hire decent people, who are passionate about their craft and helping us achieve our shared mission).
  • While we're not quite fully-remote, we are committed to being a flexible employer, as we understand you don't have to be in the office to do your best work.
  • We live a culture of empowerment, trust (that we hire the best people and get out of their way) and openness (there's a greater advantage in sharing information than keeping it to ourselves).

Our values:

  • Learn and grow. We aim high to shape our future. We give and request honest feedback knowing that we develop together. Progression over Perfection.
  • Team first. We make it easy for others. We value our differences and are open to others' opinions. We win and celebrate together! Team over Egos.
  • Own the outcome. Whether we win or we lose, we stand together. We are proactive and get the job done. Outcome over Process.
  • Tell the story. We always start with the why. We share knowledge to empower others. Transparency over Complexity.

Upvest is an equal opportunity employer. We celebrate diversity and are committed to creating an inclusive environment for all employees
