Company & Role overview

High blood pressure is the world's most common disease and causes 18M deaths/year. At Hilo by Aktiia, we believe the key to improving cardiovascular health is to provide patients and physicians with a deeper understanding of the blood pressure pattern. Before Hilo, it was not possible to monitor cardiovascular health at scale.

We are a venture-backed start-up that has raised over $96M from top-tier investors in Europe and the United States. We have developed and brought to market the world's first continuous blood pressure monitor. Our technology is based on 18 years of research by our founders at the prestigious Swiss Center for Electronics and Microtechnology (CSEM). Hilo by Aktiia's solution has been validated through extensive clinical trials and received a CE Mark as a Class IIa medical device under MDR leading to commercial access of approximately 43 countries worldwide.

Currently, we are looking for a Chief Medical Officer to lead the medical and clinical strategy for our scaling company.

As a Chief Medical Officer you will define the most clinically impactful use cases, guide product development, and champion adoption of our technology across the healthcare ecosystem.

This is a rare opportunity to transform hypertension care through a unique cardiovascular dataset and a world-class interdisciplinary team. Reporting directly to the CEO, you will serve as the bridge between clinical excellence, product innovation, and commercial strategy - ensuring that our technology earns the trust of clinicians, regulators, and customers alike.

We are a 70-person medtech scale-up, currently focused on Europe with a clear strategy to expand into the US market. You will play a pivotal role in both scientific credibility and business growth as we enter this next phase.

If you’re a clinician-entrepreneur who thrives in a fast-moving, collaborative environment and wants to drive meaningful change in global cardiovascular health - with the opportunity to improve outcomes for hundreds of thousands of hypertension sufferers - we’d love to hear from you.

This is a full-time role, though we encourage you to continue practising medicine alongside your leadership responsibilities. We believe that when it comes to hypertension management, only a medically sound approach can define the future. As the highest medical authority in the company, this role will shape that future.

We are a hybrid/remote company spread across Europe. Nevertheless, this role requires traveling within Europe and regular presence in our office in Neuchâtel, Switzerland. As the UK and German speaking countries are currently our main markets, a candidate located in one of these countries is preferred.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Leadership & Clinical Direction

  • Define and prioritise the most clinically impactful and commercially relevant use cases for our technology. Provide medical insight and leadership across the organisation — from product design to go-to-market strategy.
  • Work closely with science and product teams to translate medical insight into innovative, usable, and safe products.
  • Partner with the VP Regulatory & Quality to ensure all activities meet clinical and regulatory standards.
  • Shape the clinical research agenda and evidence strategy to support adoption, reimbursement, and market access.

Collaboration & Cross-Functional Partnership

  • Act as a trusted partner to internal teams — from developers and scientists to commercial leads — helping them understand the clinical context behind their work.
  • Foster open collaboration between medical, engineering, regulatory, and commercial functions.
  • Communicate complex medical concepts clearly, enabling faster and smarter decisions.
  • Champion a culture of clinical curiosity and evidence-based thinking throughout the company.

Market Engagement & Advocacy

  • Serve as the company’s clinical advocate externally to build credibility and enthusiasm among healthcare providers, investors and regulators.
  • Build and expand relationships with medical KOLs across Europe and North America.
  • Develop clinical narratives that inspire confidence among clinicians and end users.
  • Represent the company at medical conferences, regulatory forums, and partnership discussions.

Change Leadership & Influence

  • Inspire traditional physician communities to adopt innovative technology.
  • Translate clinical validation into commercial traction by aligning medical insight with business strategy.
  • Energise internal teams around the company’s mission and vision for patient impact.
  • A Medical Degree is required; specialisation in Cardiology or Nephrology preferred. A PhD is considered a plus.
  • Senior leadership experience within healthtech, medtech, academic medical centres, or consulting
  • Experience in entrepreneurial or scale-up environments, able to balance strategy and execution.
  • Deep clinical experience managing hypertensive or cardiovascular patients.
  • Strong existing network of KOLs in Europe, with exposure or connections in the US highly valued.
  • Proven success collaborating with technical, scientific, and regulatory teams.
  • Commercially savvy with understanding of market access and partnerships.
  • Excellent communication, storytelling, and influencing skills.
  • Proven track record of clinical research and publication.
  • Inspirational leader bringing clinical credibility, strategic clarity, and enthusiasm.

What Success Looks Like

  • Internal teams see you as a trusted partner who elevates their work.
  • External partners view you as the voice of medical authority and innovation.
  • Clinicians trust and advocate for our technology.
  • The company strengthens its leadership in hypertension care across Europe and prepares for US expansion.
  • Hilo’s position as a true medical HTN player is reinforced and defended against non-medical wearables.
  • The medical agenda is central to the company’s future strategy.
  • The opportunity to contribute to working with a cutting edge technology that has the power to influence people’s lives.
  • Competitive salary and equity program.
